1943 – Crowds at Display of the ‘Memphis Belle’
Early color reels of a public exhibition in 1943 for the ‘Memphis Belle’, a famous US WW2 bomber plane. I’ve focused on the bits showing the crowds attending. The unedited reel is extremely faded and hard to see, but I’ve heavily boosted/balanced the color scheme and brightness for each sequence and WOW the old footage really starts to pop. For background music I’ve chosen selections from Fred Allen’s 1943 Easter radio special. From the US National Archives
