Energy prices are soaring across Europe, but some countries are being hit harder than others. The Czech Republic is in the midst of an energy crisis. Like most of the countries in the European Union, the Czech Republic is heavily dependent on Russian energy sources. As Vladimir Putin strangles gas supplies to Europe and EU itself places embargos on Russian fuels, this small nation in Central Europe is getting battered. Electricity costs in the Czech Republic are now the highest in Europe, according to the July 2022 Household Energy Prices Index. The sky-high inflation has rendered many homeless. Unable to afford the rising cost of living, Czechs are moving into social housing.
