Australians ‘want to Break Free
Sky News host Chris Kenny says people “want to break free” but premiers are unwilling to relinquish their power.
“As a country we’ve done so much better than most, using our island nation advantage to largely keep the virus out and then suppressing it until we got vaccines,” he said.
“Where we’ve let ourselves down is overdoing the restrictions, overdoing the paranoia, overdoing the COVID-zero approach.”
Mr Kenny said most states and territories “show no sign” of wanting to live with the virus, even as the national vaccination rate nears 90 per cent.
“The key lesson right now, today, and surely the big challenge for 2022 is that, yes, we do need to break free,” he said.
