Calls for Cap on Refugee Numbers: Is Ireland Too Full to Accommodate Ukrainians?

Ireland is too full to house Ukrainian Refugees

Ciara Doherty is joined by Political Editor Philip Ryan, Mattie McGrath TD & Neasa Hourigan TD to discuss the idea that Ireland is too full to house Ukrainian refugees.

Taoiseach Micháel Martin has said he believes the country can accommodate more refugees arriving from Ukraine.

Neasa Hourigan agrees with this sentiment, telling Ciara that Ireland is “nowhere near our limit” in taking in Ukrainian refugees.

“We’re not there yet.”

Mattie McGrath disagrees saying that “we simply cannot do it.”

Ciara then asks Mattie McGrath, “who else takes them [Ukrainian refugees] if we don’t?”

Mattie McGrath tells her Ireland is a “small country” is happy there is a new message for asylum seekers saying there may be no room for them.
