Ukraine War
Russian bombings overnight killed at least one in eastern Ukraine as Moscow ended a self-declared truce. Ukraine’s President’s Office said Russian attacks killed three people and injured eight others in the past day. Russia claims that it conducted retaliatory strikes in Donetsk region, killing over 600 Ukrainian soldiers on Jan 7. Moscow said the strikes, that targeted Kramatorsk, were launched to avenge the deaths of 89 Russian troops killed in Makiivka. Moscow said a “massive missile strike” was launched at two buildings housing more than 1,300 Ukrainian soldiers. UK’s Defence Ministry says Russia has bolstered its defensive fortifications in the central Zaporizhzhia oblast. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the truce declared by Putin had failed to bring any respite from fighting. Ukraine has placed dozens of Russian artists and other public figures on a sanctions list.
