In a speech at the New York Stock Exchange today, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy promised a vote on a bill to raise the debt ceiling and cut federal spending. He also criticized President Biden for not negotiating and accused the president of misleading the public. Democrats wasted no time pushing back on Speaker McCarthy’s speech, with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer calling it QUOTE theater and House Minority Leader Hakim Jeffries accusing Republicans of taking the nation’s full faith and credit QUOTE hostage. The House Judiciary Committee was also in New York City today, hearing about crime in America’s largest city. But the committee’s Democrats called it a partisan stunt aimed at amplifying conservative anger at Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg.
