Federal elections are often won and lost in marginal seats on the fringes of major cities. But this time much more attention is being paid to some of the wealthiest parts of the nation, places that have traditionally been safe Liberal electorates. It’s possible that Scott Morrison could hold onto the so-called quiet Australians in middle Australia but lose some of what used to be rusted-on blue ribbon Liberal heartland seats to independents. As political reporter James Glenday explains, a key question is who those independents would back to form government if there’s a hung parliament.
