Victoria’s peak business group claims Melbourne is experiencing an “unofficial lockdown” as cautious residents increasingly shun restaurants, cafes and retail outlets, while business owners struggle to juggle isolating staff.
The latest outbreak has seen visits drop by 25 percent – on average – across the city in the opening weeks of the year.
Melbourne CBD retail visits are down 61 percent, park visits down 51 percent and travel to workplaces also down 51 percent.
